We are excited to highlight our first featured blogger this month. Today we introduce you to Regina of Vintage 1973.
Blogger (1)Introduce yourself and tell us the story behind your blog’s name and how long you been blogging.
Hi! I’m Regina. I turned 40 this year and was going down the wrong road in thinking that I was on a downward spiral in life. That my life was over, that the best was behind me. I was basically having an adult temper tantrum. This blog (Vintage 1973) is my third attempt at blogging this year. My first attempt was to write about my experiences being a black woman (Black as I Wanna Be), then I blogged from the my nickname Gigi on (Floating in the Sea of Gigi). It was too directionless, and I felt very negative, weighed down. So, I took two months off and hired a blog designer and while we were designing the logo, the direction came to me. I want to write about what I’ve learned and the  things I’m learning and the growing I’m doing. What God has brought me through and where He’s taking me. I may be 40 but life isn’t over, it’s just beginning!
What’s the one thing you wished you knew before you started your blog?
I wish I’d known how flexible I would need to be. I am really enjoying blogging this time around but it comes from a place of deciding to be more vulnerable, more real. Once I accepted that flexibility was okay, I became more comfortable, more real and ultimately more creative. I have some boundaries and a few non-negotiables, but for the most part, I’m open to where the journey of blogging will take me.
What blogging tip would you give to other bloggers?
Have ideas of what you will write. I have a calendar and I pencil in topics, link-ups and so that when I sit down my focus is narrowed. It doesn’t feel like a chore though I schedule it and plan my topics. Have some themes that you will stick to and explore – spread it out. Oh! Also, read a lot of different types of blogs. Build your blogging community, they can be a great help.
What is one of your favorite posts you have written and why? (Include a link to the post)
Regina’s Reviews. I like it because it is MINE. I never felt very creative (I’ve tried scrapbooking and other crafty projects with little success) and writing has always been a favorite past time of mine. Blogging has allowed me to feel like an artist. Creating my own way to share my thoughts and perspective with others has helped me to begin to think more freely and I believe I am beginning to live more freely in Him now too.

What is one of your favorite scriptures and why?
1 Peter 1:3-9

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.

I will eventually be writing a post about this scripture (and many others) but I chose this one because it is the scripture I read repeatedly while waiting for my husband to succumb to his injuries in Hospice Care. It is comforting to me. The situation was so difficult and I’m sure that I’m still being refined through it. Oh, there’s so much more to it, but I think that gives you an idea.
Thank you!
