Today we welcome Bailey from Becoming Bailey to BCW. She is a 21 year old college senior, who  majors in Criminal Justice.
I remember learning a children’s song in Sunday School that says “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so…” Those lyrics stuck with me as I was growing up.
As I grew into an adult, those lyrics were replaced with the lie that God no longer loves me because of the sins I’ve committed. “God loves everyone but not me because of this.” How can God forgive me when I can’t even forgive myself?
I was recently reminded of the story of King David, found in 1 Samuel and 2 Samuel. He committed adultery with Bathsheba and had her husband sent into battle to be killed. In just this one situation, King David broke eight of the Ten Commandments.
But did God stop loving David because of his sins? No. He even made David’s descendants the kingdom that endures forever, as mentioned in 2 Samuel 7, as Jesus descends from this line. There’s no limit to His grace and no sin too great for His forgiveness. The Bible is full of stories of God’s grace to undeserving sinners.
God forgave David and He forgave me too. And if the creator of the universe can forgive me, then I can forgive myself.
Don’t be stuck in the lie of “I can never be forgiven.” Your sins were already forgiven on the cross.
