It’s a joy to be sharing the word of our God with other sisters in Christ around the U.S. and the world.
Thank you BCW for this opportunity to connect with other women who also love Jesus.
I would like to share with you one of the most important passages in the Bible that brings me peace and hope, especially in moments when I don’t understand God’s plan for my life and in my heart I just want to ask God, why? There’s so much to meditate in these verses but I will just highlight the main idea of what God has spoken to my heart.
3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ. 6But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is effective in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer; 7and our hope for you is firmly grounded, knowing that as you are sharers of our sufferings, so also you are sharers of our comfort. 8For we do not want you to be unaware, brethren, of our affliction which came to us in Asia, that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life; 9indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead; 10who delivered us from so great a peril of death, and will deliver us, He on whom we have set our hope. And He will yet deliver us, (2 Corinthians 1:3-10 NASB)
The Father of mercies and God of all comfort. (v3)
God is a merciful God, He is good and sensitive to our pain. He is a God who comforts us in any affliction we are facing or will face. He promises us to comfort us; simply reject any thought that because of your affliction He isn’t a good God, He doesn’t love you or doesn’t care about you. When the enemy attacks your mind with these thoughts, repeat to yourself that God is good and loves you despite what you’re going through.
Who comforts us in all our afflictions. (v4)
He comforts us not in some afflictions but in ALL our afflictions. It does not matter if you are going through the most unimaginable, unbearable pain a human being can face. God is stronger than any pain we may face on this Earth and he promises us comfort in all our afflictions. Claim that promise to your life, there’s no pain that our Lord can not or will not comfort or heal.
We will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God (v4).
But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation. (v6)
What a wonderful promise that God will transform our pain into an instrument to comfort others! Our pain is not in vain. God has the power to redeem your pain and be glorified in your life. You will be able to minister salvation and the life of Jesus to those who are now dead spiritually. Maybe now you are too hurt to see this but have faith and don’t give up hope all things work together for good to those who love God. (Romans 8:28)
We had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead; (9)
One of God’s purposes in our affliction is to remove our confidence in ourselves, on our own strength and learn to only depend in God alone and His grace. Say the weak, “I am Strong!” Only when I experience my own weakness I will be able to experience the true power of God for His power is perfected in my weakness. Trust in Him, his power can transform what is dead in your life and bring new life and meaning.
In Christ’s love, Priscila.
