Personalizing Scripture

This concept of personalizing scripture for your need is new to me. I just recently learned this in my bible study group. Understanding that the bible had my name in it and was made for me and my loved ones. This method of understanding will strengthen your prayer life and make you think of God’s Word in a new and refreshing way.

I will give you several examples and where to place your or someone’s name in it. But, first, we must understand what prayer and scripture are. The Bible is our lifeline to God, our living will. It gives us strength, power, encouragement, and knowledge that we need in our everyday lives. You can find whatever you need in the bible. Marriage, friendship, anger, anxiety, worry, petitions, hope, grace, love, and list goes on and on. When looking for scriptures on one topic, I find so many that I can read to give me understanding on that subject.

So, I encourage you to do the same. When you have a question about life go to scripture before you ask your husband, friend, or anyone else ask God. They will give you worldly advice, but the Lord is Truth and He knows what is deep inside your heart that words can not say out loud.

prayer

Let’s get started

Did you know that prayer is in 107 verses in the KJV bible and they have 650 different types of prayers in the bible? If it’s included that many times then it must be important. Prayer is so powerful and effective in getting your life closer to God.

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

1 John 5:14

When we approach God in prayer we humble ourselves and give thanks. There is something about releasing your problems to the Lord.  When you know He heard, you don’t have to worry.

The Bible was made for you

Here are examples of how you insert yourself or someone’s name. Where I put the () is where you personalize the scripture. You do not change the Word of God but insert the name. Some scriptures are already set up in prayer form for you.

Anger

In (my) anger (help me) not  (to) sin”: Do not let the sun go down while (I am) still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold (over me). Ephesians 4:26

Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice (inside me). Ephesians 4:31

Guilt

Then I acknowledge my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said,” I will confess my transgressions to the Lord, and you forgave the guilt of my sin. Psalm 32:5. In this verse it is already set up for you, but what if you want to put someone else in there? I acknowledge that (Name) has sinned. You forgave them and the guilt of their sin.

Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found, surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them, Psalm 32:6

The waters could be the overwhelming feeling of guilt inside of someone.

Psalms 5:3

Patience

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Ephesians 4:2

(Help me) be completely humble and gentle, (giving me) patience, bearing with one another in love.

Wait for the Lord (Name); be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Psalm 27:14

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give (Name) the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had. Romans 15:5

Anxiety/ Worry

Cast your cares (Name) on the Lord and he will sustain you; He will never let (Name) the righteous be shaken. Psalm 55:22

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. Psalm 56:3

When (Name) is afraid, (let Name) put their trust in you.

Depression

God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

God has not given (me) a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and a sound mind.

From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety, for you are my refuge. Psalm 61:3

Now may the Lord of peace himself give (Name) peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with (Name). 2 Thessalonians 3:16

Personalizing God's Word

I hope that this gives you an idea about how you can personalize scripture to you and your family or friends. Remember that the Word was created for ALL of God’s people to read and understand. Giving us hope and peace beyond understanding.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34
