Praying for Our Children

School is out and we will be seeing our children more at home. If you are like me, however, I send my daughter to summer camp for a few days. Having both kids 24/7 is exhausting for me. They do not get along most of the time. Now, they have their moments when they play or love on each other, but not all the time. My daughter is in a Christian school right now and they have Bible verses to memorize and chapel to learn from as well. But, when you get into summer you may depend on church once a week for their spiritual food. We are like this even as adults. We crave the spiritual food we get from Sunday.  Even though we know we need more, do our children need more too? Praying for children

As parents, we have a very important job to pray for them. I remember when I dedicated my children to my church that this was one of the duties we are responsible for doing. Keeping our children protected with the Word of God.

What to pray for your children?

Well, I would say the first thing to pray for is that they have an open mind and spirit. This way they will have ears to hear and eyes to see. I do wish sometimes they would listen to me. HAHAHAHA. I do not know how many times I have to tell my daughter something before she really hears me.

That they would love the Lord with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength, and their neighbors as themselves”  – Reference: Matthew 22:36-40

How many times does God have to tell us the same thing before we hear Him?

Second, pray for them to love the Lord early in life so that they have Him to lean on through everything.

Come to know Christ as Lord early in life” – Reference: 2 Timothy 3:15

Third, pray for the people around them. Hopefully, your children will pick good friends that will influence them in a Godly manner. Not for the bad or negative. I always remember my mom telling me that I picked out good friends. I could sense things about people if they were not the kind of people I wanted to hang around with. They seem to make me feel uncomfortable about myself and feel bad. Why would you want anyone in your life who puts you down and makes you feel like your not enough?

Be surrounded by the right kinds of friends and avoid wrong friends” –Reference: Proverbs 1:10-16;13:20

Guidance

Parents want to guide their children onto the right path. Tell them what do, who to be with, or what they should be doing. This is because we want to protect them. I am the same way. Keeping my seven-year-old from finding out how this world really is seems to be a struggle. You can not control the other kids at school not to say something to make your children question life or their faith. How do we give our children discernment?

Pray that they will receive wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and discretion from the Lord.

Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance” Proverbs 1:5

You can also pray for the guidance of their future mate. That he or she would be a Godly person and influence.

Love Them

Love those children no matter what. I hear a lot from people. Love the person hate the sin. Just know whatever is controlling your child is not them. The enemy knows they are vulnerable and is attacking them. Pray that they fear no evil but walk in fear of the Lord.

Protect them with prayer from the evil one.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full”-John 10:10

My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one”-John 17:15

Whatever they are going through spiritually, emotionally, mentally, or physically love them through it.
